PTSD

Specialist, Trauma‑Focused CBT to Help You Feel Safe, Steady, and in Control Again

Trauma can leave you feeling on edge, disconnected, or overwhelmed by memories you don’t want to revisit. You might find yourself avoiding certain places, people, or situations, or feeling suddenly flooded by emotions that seem out of your control. Many people describe living with a sense of threat, even when they know they’re safe.

If this resonates, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to navigate it by yourself.

I’m Tamara, a BABCP‑accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist specializing in PTSD, Depression, and Low Self‑Esteem. I offer trauma‑focused CBT that is steady, paced, and grounded in safety. My aim is to help you understand what’s happening in your mind and body, reduce symptoms, and regain a sense of stability and control.

With experience delivering high‑intensity CBT at NHS Step 3, I regularly support people who have experienced single‑event trauma, chronic trauma, childhood trauma, and trauma linked to long‑term emotional distress. My approach is compassionate, structured, and informed by 17 years of mental health practice.

Understanding PTSD

Trauma affects everyone differently. You may recognise some of the following:

  • Flashbacks or intrusive memories

  • Feeling constantly on edge or hypervigilant

  • Sudden waves of fear, panic, or overwhelm

  • Avoiding reminders of what happened

  • Feeling detached, numb, or disconnected

  • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating

  • Irritability or anger that feels out of character

  • Feeling unsafe even in safe environments

  • Shame, guilt, or self‑blame

These reactions are not signs of weakness — they are understandable responses to overwhelming experiences. And they can change with the right support.

How Trauma Focused CBT Helps with PTSD

Trauma‑focused CBT is one of the most effective, evidence‑based treatments for PTSD. It helps you:

  • Understand how trauma affects the brain and body

  • Reduce the intensity and frequency of intrusive memories

  • Rebuild a sense of safety and control

  • Challenge beliefs shaped by trauma (e.g., guilt, shame, responsibility)

  • Process what happened in a structured, supported way

  • Reduce avoidance and regain confidence in everyday life

  • Develop long‑term emotional resilience

Therapy is always paced to your needs. You will never be pushed into anything before you feel ready.

My Approach

  • Warm, steady, and down‑to‑earth

  • Trauma‑informed and grounded in safety

  • Structured CBT with clear goals

  • A pace that supports both stability and progress

  • Practical tools to help manage symptoms between sessions

  • A collaborative space where you feel understood, not judged

Clients often tell me they appreciate having therapy that feels safe and predictable, while also helping them make meaningful change.

Who I Work Best With

I’m particularly experienced with people who:

  • Have experienced single‑event trauma (accidents, assaults, medical trauma)

  • Live with chronic or childhood trauma

  • Feel overwhelmed by intrusive memories or hypervigilance

  • Experience trauma alongside depression or low self‑esteem

  • Have tried therapy before but didn’t feel fully understood or supported

  • Want a structured, evidence‑based approach delivered with warmth and compassion

What to Expect

We’ll begin by understanding your experiences, your symptoms, and what you want from therapy. From there, we’ll create a plan that feels safe, manageable, and tailored to your needs. You will always have control over the pace of the work.
